96 in a 94?
I have been going through some issues with my truck. I removed the head to fix a bad HG and researched the head casting number and find out the head is off a 96. My truck is a 94. The block has also been decked from the measurment I get from the run out on pistons. Did 94's have any type of issue that would have them replace the heads with a new style? My truck as 197,000 on the clock. Hatching on the cylinder walls looks like a motor with only 50,000 miles on it???
I am not complaining.... Just funny how a 96 motor would be in my 94 already? I called Dodge and they had no service record of motor replacement on my Vin#. Just a dozen warranty issues like seat belts, front end stuff, interior stuff, ect.
Would a 96 motor produce more power than a 94?

As far as i know the motors are exactly alike, the only thing that would be different is the injection pumps. IIRC the 94 and 95 5spds had a 175 pump and in 96 they jumped up to the 215 pump, which is the best one. Maybe someone messed the original motor up some how and just bought a whole replacement motor out of a wrecked truck or something?

Hey West Coast, is that the reason for your bad idle, or did you find more stuff wrong when you pulled the head? I think the last thing I read on you was either a bad valve or cam and I.P. problems.

Your engine Data plate will have a build date on it for the engine itself, it is possible that by some problem during manufacturing (stuff happens) that there was a weakness in your origional head , and it cracked , causeing replacement a few years after the truck was sold. Try contacting PO's to see if they know anything.
