95 Cummins Hunt but Never Find Gear, Auto
Have a 95 Cummins 4x4 Long Bed w/Banks Stinger Plus Kit, No problems pulling RV for 23,000 miles. Now 116,000 miles on truck. This last year Pulling over Blue Mts, 6500' pass, heard loud bang at 65mph and tranny shifted out of 4th lock and then 20 seconds later in again. Since then tranny won't stay locked. Service did flush and Bands adjust/ no deposits in pan. Still hunts. Will a lock up kit save what I have, or am I just prolonging the inevitable? Is it a wise thing to change to a manual trans?

If the tranny comes out of lockup, I think that the problem is likely electrical; if it slips, then mechanical. I am not sure about this. Check the TPS.

I have installed the ATS Triple-Loc, and I am very happy with the way that it operates. I like it better than a manual, but then I am old and have shifted too many gears.
george

My 95 did the same thing a few months ago pulling a long grade. I was pulling my 9k+ camper and was testing the torque plate. I thought mine was just trying to kick down. I got out to check for broken parts it was so loud. Has not done it again and seems to be operating OK. I'll be glad when I can upgrade the tranny, but this truck and my 98 CTD both have about 100k and I hope they don't go at the same time.
