94 auto trans, how to do it right??
A friend of mine just bought a 94 2500 with a bad auto trans, the rest of the truck is in great shape and he got it cheap.
He wants to rebuild or replace the auto, not worried about
the $$ becuase he got the truck cheap. He plans on some bombing in the future and he tows a sport boat in the summer.
Should he try to find a good local rebuilder and do it with heavy duty parts or go with a Suncoast or ATS, DTT?
He wants to do this once and be done with it.
Thanks

Suncoast or ATS, DTT....have your friend call each vendor...each tranny vendor have great products to choose from....when upgrading a tranny remember to keep future needs in mind like bombing for more horsepower or towing heavy loads
When I upgraded my tranny I told the rebuilder that it must be able to handle 300 hp and that I tow heavy loads 29000 GVW

Do like Pappyman said. Contact all the "big three". Your friend NEEDS to decide what the future holds af far as bombing. That will make a differance with the build of the tranny. When it comes to replacing mine (soon) I will go with a DTT tranny. After a good discussion with Bill K. (he was very honest and up front about everything) I made up my mind. I don't know about the others. hey didn't seem to want to respond to my e-mails very quickly when I was having some problems.

Hey 6,
Auto tranny's are one of the few things that can start a fight on this board, but we all agree that a stock rebuild is a waste of time. If you guys do as pappy sez and consult as many vendors as nessacary, to find the one you like, you will end up with the best truck you could possibly own.

Not to start a fight but would an ATS triple lock TC fit on a DTT tranny? Just for pooh and giggles.

hey smokey how does you truck like the 370's? mine hates them and it lopes and is rough running under 2k rpms. I see you have an auto so I figured you would not feel it as much. I also have the 4k kit so that might not help either.

I just got the new tranny in my 94 I went with ATS because of the local dealers, there's 3 within 3 hours. So far has been the best $$ spent on the truck. Do some research and go with the one you like the best. Most have different ways of making it work. Pick which you like the best. They all accomplish the same thing, getting the power to the ground. They just go about it differently. Enjoy.

Not an expert but I would say that you should be able to mix and match,as long as it's for one particular model and/or year. Question I've got though is WHY!?

I wanted to mix and match so that I wouldn't show favoritism. Seriously, I liked the idea of the triple lock, but I had heard so many good things about DT that I could not decide.
