6lbs boost

Gauges all hooked up. Putting around town dont see much over 5 psi. I got out on the highway and up to 65 mph and it stayed right at 5-6 psi. During acceleration I see max about 14 psi (WOT) and then once I get to a steady speed the boost gauge goes back to 0. 45 mph and I might see 2-2.5 psi but any less throttle and it drops to 0. Do I have a leak or could there be other problems. What is the best way to test for leaks while in the driveway? Soapy water and a brush? Thanks in advance.

I would check the guage line and fittings for leaks before getting shook up. what port did you tap into for the guage? The soapy water trick checking for leaks may work, but you need some pressure in there first. You may have to plug it in to regulated compressed air to find the leak.

That sounds about right for a stock truck. The wastegate will open around 14 to 16 psi.

yeah more thatn likely a kinked line, i made that mistake putting my gauges in the first time. a good tip i have, which i am sure other people use is to tape the boost line to the pillar pod after you get the gauge in and where you want it, then pull the excess carefully to get rid of all the slack in the pillar. But pull it down carefully so not to kink again. Also , check the fitting, and be sure not to tighten the compression fitting to much and make sure it is on straight.

You might have a small leak or a kinked line or a wastegate head that is set a little low but the numbers are close. Mine will cruise at 65 and show about 4 to 6 pounds, it is directly related to your foot. Low boost equates to good mileage and high boost equates to power. You may want to build a pressure test fixture that goes on the turbo inlet. Do a search on boost leaks, I know some have been posted here.

If your truck is mostly stock it sounds about right. My bet is if you mash on it on a hill or with a load it will pump up to a little over 20psi.

TIghtened up all the boost connections and cleaned the airfilter and now we have 18 instead of 13 psi. Should I see more than that?

Try turning the Texas Flag air freshener right side up

Consider yourself lucky, a stock auto '96 should only see 15-18 psi max boost.

Its crazy how the jealousy spills out from non-Texans. After all there are two types of people in the world.....Texans and Wannabees!

Stick a spent 22 shell in that wastegate line and it will go on up for you.

Not messing with the wastegate until I get the 100 plate dropped in.

not EVERYONE is jealous of texans...after all size DOES matter, and until we take over Europe....Alaska is top dog. I'm kidding, of course...I would never start something like that.

You're right though, no need to mess with the WG until you add more fuel. Put that 100 in and I gaurantee, you'll want everything that HX35 can give.....around 30-34 max. It'll prolly still haze a little even at that......but the cool factor will be WAY up when you start taking PSD's and Dmax's to school
