5th gear nut fix in the truck

I read about doing the fix while the tranny is still in the truck. Do I understand it right, if i drop the transfer case and cross member and let the tranny hang down, then remove the tailshaft housing, I can get right to the nut? Also what is the best fix? will the updated nut with loctite work, or should i just tack weld it?

Thanks

You can do it with the trans in the truck, you must take off the transfer case and trans rear cover. The new fifth gear nut will have set screws, but adding loctite is also a good idea. I would drive it a little after putting it back together and then replace the trans oil.

my 2 cents...
