5 speed man trans oil?
#3
I recently ran one with 20-W50 for 20,000+ miles with NO issues.
Pulled heavy, light, got it stuck, cold, hot, the whole scenario, not so much as a rattle from a bearing, or a grind out of the sychros.
Anyone know what an NV5600 should use for lube?
Mark.

There have been tons of posts on this topic, and tons of opinions. I have an auto, so I am not versed. But, I do know you just can't use any old lub. You will pay for it later. Search the posts, and see what is working best. There is good info here.

The dealer stuff is Castrol Syntorque, which is a 75w85 oil. Thats the only place you can get the stuff. Other options would be the Amsoil MTG, or I think Redline MTL is also a GL-4 oil. Do not run ATF, since that is more akin to a 5w30 weight oil. Thats what you use in a G56 tranny.

Give Blumenthal a call (888-236-4800). Castrol Syntorque for about $10 a quart including shipping. www.blumenthalmfg.com

Hey thanks for the input we changed the oil and used the oil from the dodge store to be on the safe side. and with this oil the trans no longer has the howley growleys at 40lb boost. we bought the truck used not knowing the history. the oil removed was clean and looked like gear lube with a carmel color and the oil from the dodge store was clear like water no color.

Use Syntorq or Amsoil MTG only, they are the only ones proven to work long term.
Problem is most oils, dino or synthetic have a chemistry that is incompatible with the syncros and will eventually eat them like acid.
They are usually toast in about 50k miles with the wrong fluid. Don't believe it when when someone says Brand X has been working fine unless they have at least 50k on the wrong lube.
Many reports of the popular synthetics Redline and Royal Purple causing failure even though these companies say their fluids are compatable.
Blumenthal used to sell on ebay but I think Castrol must have busted them, no problem still getting it for a good price if you call though.
www.quad4x4.com has a better price than the dealer also but not as good as Blumenthal.
