5 spd wont shift

If it is working nicely when double clutching, but otherwise not so much, ensure the hydraulics are in good order. When my hydraulics died, I could shift while moving with double clutching, but had to turn the truck off to get it into reverse.

Sounds like the synchros are on their way out. Double-clutching equalizes input and output gear speeds before the shift - same thing the synchros are supposed to do. Repair means Trans Remove-Rebuild-Reinstall. Cost will depend on where you source your parts and whether you do it yourself or take it to a shop...

When mine got hard to shift the stop rings or blocker rings some call them on the syncro's was worn. When the coller slides aganist the ring it is suppose to stop the gear from turning so it will slide on. There is suppose to be a space between the OD of the ring and gear the braking or stopping part is on the ID. If there is no space then the ID of the ring is worn. Mine was 2nd, 3rd and reverse. I do agree with infidel about the lube. You are lucky mine only had 115K on it but 90% of it was towing.

Check those Hydraulics.

I'm going to have to check mine also...Mine is starting to get hard getting into reverse and 2nd gear..Also not very easy getting it into the other gears..At over 250K miles...Maybe it's tired out...I had this trans partly torn apart and the synchros looked better than my orginal trans...
