4x4 Auto compatible with NV4500??
Hey fellas. I have a 1996 Cab - Chassis 2wd truck and I’m thinking about making it a 4x4. My truck has the solid axle front end so I am wondering if the 4x4 parts off a automatic truck will work with my 2WD NV4500 hardware???
Would the transfer case bolt right on and would the front axle swap out? Thanks

No, you need the 4wd version of the nv4500 (or be able to change the main shaft and tailhousing).
An auto tcase can be used, but the input spline is too small so the input gear needs to be changed to 29 spline.
The 4wd front axle should be a direct swap for the dummy axle.

I’ve been doing a little research. Is there an alternative on my 1996 2wd can and chassis that would bypass the CAD system?? I’m trying to get creative on a heavy duty way to make my 2WD a 4WD. Any ideas??

A pull cable or locking hub kit for the Dana 60 would get rid go the CAD system.
I have locking hubs on my '98 12V 5 speed 4x4 QCSB 3500 SRW

The CAD can be crippled without much trouble so it's engaged fulltime, like back in the 70's trucks.
In 2002 some of the Dana 60's came without CAD. Little bit of a unicorn though.
