47re shifts out of gear in the morning?
My 98 12 valve likes to kick out of gear when I pull out of the driveway from a cold start only. It will disengage from gear then if I tap the gas and let off it will re-engage. This only happens if the truck is cold and usally does better if I let it sit in neutral for a minute. It was worse in the winter! Thanks for replies!

Fluid is draining back from the converter. No big deal. Wear and tear on the valve body PR valve and selector valve plus the metal seal rings on the input shafts. A few things can be done.
Keep fluid level slightly over the full mark. This keeps fluid level over valves in valve body. Less drainback issues.
Just put it in drive for about 10 sec before driving away. Longer in winter. This refills the system before you take off and get air locked in the converter and valve body. If you put a gauge on the accumulator test port you will see the pressure take a few seconds to fill and build at first startup. It is worse when cold. Later when it "comes out of gear" the gauge would show the pressure drop and she will kick back in as soon as the pressure comes back up. Faster RPMs help speed the process but could eventually take its tole on the flex plate or rear end due to barking the tires.
Lastly If this happens in warm weather often someone may have been in the tranny who does not have much experience with the 47RH. They sometimes cross drill the PR valve passage. I have seen this a few times. It leaks back in 6 hours or less. This can be repaired with some small Alum. welding wire hammered in the hole inside the valve body.
