47re to 47rh conversion

What does it take to convert a 47re to a 47rh. Iv been doing some research and a few people tell me it can be done. Apparently you can swap out the valve body and modify the OD piston retainers. I have no idea what the OD piston retainers are. Iv never dealt with an automatic transmission before so please bear with me.

I don't believe it is possible, something about the hydraulics back to the OD........ I know you can take the A618 up to full 47RH status though.

Hopefully we will get one of the really good trans guys to chime in though.

The easiest way is to buy an aftermarket OD piston retainer or a RH one. The oil supply for the governor feeds through the retainer.

The OD piston retainer is at the back of the main case. It is the first thing to be installed on a bare case. It also supports the low/reverse drum.

My one trans is built from a 47RE, had to install a bushing for the RH connector too.
