47RE 1st gear problem after rebuild
My 96' 3500 started to get weaker and weaker from a stand still. It took more and more throttle to get it going from a stop. I thought it was just how the stock 47re trannies were. My 96' 2500 before i rebuilt the tranny was a little similar with no power and would reach the rev limit before any usable power was reaching the wheels. After I rebuilt the 2500 with a Georend valve body and triple disc TC it ran awesome and there was power right off idle. I did find that my TV cable had snapped so I bought a new one and installed it, no difference in drivability. Basicly I have to really floor it to get it going in 1st but then when it shifts into 2nd it runs fine??? So I figured it was time to rebuild this 47re and get a new TC with a slightly lower stall. I didn't do anything to the VB though. After the rebuild the same deal, what the truck! I had to really floor it to get out of the driveway, i think i actually had to put it in 4low then back into 2hi when I got onto flat road. Although if I were to put it in reverse it has all the power in the world and I can notice the lower stall working right away. What's the deal here? Please let it just be a band or TV cable adjustment, I so don't want to take this apart again.

Well the posting problem is that there are alot of shade trees here who have some screwed up ideas in their head and want to argue when someone who knows whats going on helps someone. Therefor those who know don't want to waste time here in pissing matches.
Now to your problem. You say first is slipping and everything else is good. I don't do many RE's but I will tell you what I would check on an RH. They are basically the same.
If first slips in drive but not in 1(low) it would be the overrunning clutch.
No low at all would be: Governor valve sticking, TV cable adjustment or valve body problem. I would suggest you recheck your TV cable adjustment first. Did you remove the front servo? Could be sticking. They get cocked in there. Front band adj is 2.5 turns.
Could be low fluid. This trans is bad about that.
Could be input shaft rings but I doubt it.
Last the governor could be screwed up.
Sorry it can't be narrowed down more but we need more information. A pressure check would help.

Does it shift into first if you put into manual first? Sounds like its starting out in 2nd or 3rd. If its starting out in 2nd or 3rd its most likely the governor pressure sensor or solenoid. Unless something is wrong in the valve body.
Do you have a book on the 47 series transmissions? If you don't I suggest you get one and read it a couple of times and round up a 300 to 400 psi pressure gauge and enough line so you can pressure test it at the different ports.
