4 Wheel drive not engaging

My truck has always been spotty going into 4 wheel drive. Today I got stuck going up a small hill (very embarissing ) because it refused to engage. I got under the truck and it looks like part of the vaccum actuator is missing. Taking it off and bench testing it, it doesn't hold any vaccum. I called napa to see if they had any replacments (wanted to replace it with the cable type accuator), and they had no part listing. I've been searching all afternoon, what's the part # or name ? from napa?

While I'm thinking about it, is there any way I can rig this so the collar keeps the axle engaged?

I was hoping I could get it through napa so I could have it done this weekend. From what they're telling me they never carried it  maybe I'm confused

Unless you have a local 4wd shop, you'll probably have to order it. My Napa doesn't stock it either.

^^I don't. I ended up ordering a posi lok kit online, but the forecast is calling for 40" in the next two days. I'm gonna rig up a spring to hold the collar in 4wd untill the kit shows up.

What is everyones thoughts on the Posi-Lok conversion. Am I best to leave it stock or convert it? If so is the Posi-Lok the best conversion? Thanks

If you do any work where you need 4wd, get the posi lock. If you live in an area that frequently gets bad weather, its up to you, I wouldn't bother replacing the vacuum unit until it broke if I didn't need it everyday... How much comfort do you want knowing your 4wd will engage?

The Posi-Lok seems to be the best route, but others may beg to differ.

I like my posi-lock, at least until I convert the stupid thing to a solid axle and lockouts!

They work great, you just have to make SURE they are fully engaged and then twist the locking handle.
