1995 trany questions

Hello
Having a problem with my 95 auto trans .
Was wondering if 3rd gear lock up is controled by the TPS too
wants to lock and unlock .
Seems like it is worse when the tranny is still cold
Thanks in advance

Yes. A new tps fixed my lock unlock issues.

These autos are notorious for in/out of lockup as you're cruising along.
TPS units are expensive, but alot of the issue comes from electrical cross talk happening in the harness. I always stick a capacitor-filter kit on them.
Another thing to check on 94/95RH is the trans temp connector pin fit. Also sometimes a sagging brake light switch can cause lockup issues.

What kind of capacitor-filter kit do you use Mike? Where did you get it, and where did you install it?

Mine does it every once in a while, but I only have to switch on the ATS Commander and lock it up, and that overrides the TPS. Switching on the Commander generally fixes the problem for awhile, but the capacitor-filter sounds like an interesting fix.

I've dealt with OD hunting problems more times than I care to count and have never had a capacitor addition, separating wires, wrapping with foil or taking a TPS apart to clean work long term.
Basically a waste of time.
What has always worked though is replacing the TPS.

After dissecting a few TPSs I've found the reason they fail is because the windings in the spot where you have the throttle positioned at the most, i.e. highway cruising speed, get hammered and short together.
No amount of foil or cleaning will fix that.

Bill,
Do you recommend the TPS replacement over the potentiometer mod?

Never tried the pot mod so I can't comment.
Many people, myself included, don't want to mess around with a dial to control their tranny.
The TPS works good for controlling the tranny but they do wear out.
