1995 Cummins hard start and no idle (sometimes)
I just got a 1995 Dodge 2500 cummins. I have been driving it and I thought I had most of kinks worked out but not it just gave me huge new issue. It started by the pickup sometimes not wanting to idle after extended times on the highway, but now its completely random. I might drive the thing all day and have no issues but occasionally it won't idle and if it dies the only way to start it is to out the pedal down and give it fuel. If I let off then it will stumble and die. But if I drive it like this more often than not the issue will go away for a while. Its not the shut down solenoid because that was replaced with a hand cable. Any ideas??? Praying its not the injector pump need a rebuild. Oh, also it does have a bully dog lift pump.

Does it ever do it while cold? ( first start or very shortly after starting, IP hasn't had the time to get warm yet )
When hot and messing up, can you shut it off, dump cold water over the IP to cool it and the problem be gone? ( Something to try )
The first thing is to get a fuel pressure gauge on it, these things need pressure and your BD lift pump isn't what I would want on a 12 valve....... Look for 25 ish at idle, 32-35 at speed.

Sorry it's not a bully dog that was typo. It an air dog haha. Also I fixed the issue but thanks for the advice! The idiots hooked up the lift pump wrong so. I corrected it and now all is well. Hopefully, I truly fixed it but only time will tell. And hopefully I didn't do any damage to the injector pump by not have a lift pump. Also my fuel pressure gauge is in the mail and should be here any day haha.

Virtually no way your pump is hurt, the P7100 is the standard of tough.
Dumb question, any idea why they went away form the stone cold reliable block mounted stock lift pump for that overblown questionable reliability electric one?
