12V vs. 24V
#2
The VP is easier to turn up, obviously, it also allows you to change tunes at will.
Even with all that, I searched until I found my 12V. I guess I like the idea that many things I need not much more than duct tape and zip ties to fix.
To each his own though.

I would question saying the VP is easier to "turn up." Definitely not cheaper, a 12 valve you can grind the fuel plate and put a gov. spring in and you are running pretty good. As opposed to the 24 valve you have to buy a box or something.
I've owned both and currently own a 12v. My 12v runs much better than my 24v did and I have less money in the 12v.
Replacing the VP really sucks($1300) and that was doing it myself. All in all I would never recommend a 24v but know some people that are very happy with them.
I guess it is all preference.

I have owned both.
I really liked my VP truck......when it ran, unfortunately after the second VP croaked I lost all faith in it.
The P-pump is reliable but once you crank them up you have to live with the tune daily, and they are smokey pigs compared to the electronic pumps.
If you want a stock DD that will give you the longest/reliable life than 12v gets my vote. If you want to turn up a DD to hot rod a little but work stock mainly than my vote goes for a third gen.
You really need to know what you want out of it and what you will use it for. Yes the new pumps were for emissions.
