12v starting problems

as of sunday the only way i can get the truck to start is if i crank extra long and give it about 1/4 peddal. if i crank the truck with no pedal the minute i let go of the key to the run position truck dies every time.

things i have checked

idles @ 925 in N or P
good fuel pressure
all fuel filters changed 3000 miles ago
10 month old OF valve and lift pump
no fuel leaks

things i am working on

removing shutoff and cleaning
trying to find blue wire to relay, no blue wire at drivers batt and no luck in the fuse box.

any pointers would be great, must be ready for work in the morning.
thanks Mark

Does it do it when the truck has been sitting for a while only or when it is warm? Long cranking times are often caused by air leaks in the fuel lines. Try pumping the hand primer a bunch of times before starting it and see if that helps.

thanks for the reply, i found that the boot on the shutoff was torn and wedged betwen the spring and shaft causing it to hang up. all is working great again. still trying to find the blue wire. Mark

still trying to find the blue wire.
No blue wire on a '98.
Instead the shutdown relay is fed by a fuse marked spare in the underhood fuse box.

bill, i checked the fuse box under the hood, but all of the spots where it says spare are empty. could the relay on the firewall be sharing a fuse but marked as something else?

Guess it could be.
That's the problem with '98s, Dodge was wanting to put the 24 valve in them for the entire production year but the 24 kept on being delayed. They ended up switching the electrical back and forth and combining from 12 to 24 a few times.
If you really want to find what feeds the relay you could hook a test light up to the relay and start pulling fuses one at a time until the light goes out.
Would be nice for you to know which one it is in case problems arise in the future.
