12V Industrial in 94' F250

Been awhile since I've been on here!

So buddy called me Friday afternoon and told me he found a deal on a 12 valve engine 3.5 hrs away. So we take off and he explains to be its a 12 valve RECON brand new from the factory.
Turns out the ol boy sellin it worked at cummins and some guy ordered it, never came and got it and sat for over 2 years and after that cummins allows their employees to buy it for cost or it gets scrapped.
So this guy bought it to put in his 1st gen but never got around to it. Is moving to Oregon and couldnt get it loaded so he sold it for $2000 to my buddy.

So from what we've been seeing online and from a buddy of ours is that it has a different VE pump on it for industrial purposes. But my buddy has a 12 valve with a p-pump already on it. We also plan on intercooling it.

We know we will need the pump and intake plenum/horn and piping. On the engine itself is there anything else we will need to be looking at? Injectors? I've heard the spray angle could be different.

Any help is appreciated!

its a 177hp @ 2500 RPM.

If swapping a P-pump on a engine that had a VE pump, you will also need to swap the timing case, cover and injection pump gear.
Then of course the injector lines, injectors, pump bracket and throttle bracket / assembly needs to match the p-pump as well.
The intake plate and intake horn will also likely be on the list of swapped parts.

I am not sure by reading your post if that is what you are doing.

Glad to see you around...How is the orange 1st gen 47RH transmission swap coming along?

Does the motor he bought look like a non intercooled '89/'90 style motor?

Non-intercooled. Plan on switching all the P-Pump stuff over from his other 12 valve he has sitting in his shop.

Yeah glad to be around! Lifes been pretty busy with 2 kids now and other projects.

Orange is doing good, don't get to use it much. Had the transfer case out twice to reseal the back of the trans. This time im using only black RTV and no other gasket. Should be good to go after that!
Really hoping to get it out quite a bit this spring/summer/fall.

The early non intercooled motors have different piston bowls for a different spray angle on the injectors.
They also have a different head which takes a larger injector - 9 rather than 7.

Might want to discuss what your building with your injector builder.

Well he got the engine/trans in the truck... decided to stick with the VE for now and see how he likes it. Got a 1st gen exhaust manifold to move the turbo around.

Found most of the parts at the local scrap yard... got an intercooler, piping, intake horn, intake plenum, grid heater and some other things he was needing for $100.

He slapped a ZF6 transmission behind it. He fired it up for the 1st time last night. I believe he has driveline and exhaust and he will be about finished on the swap.

The engine in the pic is intercooled. It uses water from the radiator just like most 4BTs and 855s. The 855 NTC series used this method in all turbo models. The 855 is the toughest cummins in history.

The triangle shape on top is the intercooler.

Good info to know!

Truck is finished, ill try to get some pictures next time I see him. Runs good and he's super happy with how its running.

Its intercooled with a 7.3 or 6.0 powerstroke intercooler now.

Did he take the" triangle shaped box" liquid cooler off the intake before adding the other 6.0 intercooler? If not the liquid cooler may be putting heat back into the charge air.
