12V getting hot with little load

Truck runs fine when no trailer hooked up, can get hot if I rag on it but it takes some doing with full throttle runs to get it up past 1200 deg. and that is usually pushing 100 mph. With a small trailer and load that weighs no more than 5k, I have to watch the pyro because it can get real close to 1400 deg. real fast on a hill or from take off. Anything Im doing wrong or is the HX35 just not enough for what I have in the truck as far as mods? Thanks.

not doing anything wrong.... looks like you've got a pretty good setup, the
18* of timing should be helping you out some.

370's are not friendly for heat, especially on a stock turbo.

what are you seeing for boost #'s ??

I can peg my 35lb gauge anytime I wish. I have the exhaust housing cross drilled for some peace of mind but I know I am at the limit of that little charger. Dont really have alot of cash for a big performance turbo but want to know what I can do to make this thing more manageable for towing and daily driving. How are the New Era 435 injectors for heat? May end up just selling the 370's and get some 215's out of a manual tranny truck and see how that does, but I'd rather tune up than tune down. What can I do for $500 that would make a difference?

I saw in the latest edition of Diesel Power they put an S200? on their economy 3500 2wd and it made a good bit of difference. I dont need bigger just better.

Sounds about right, you need to put a bigger comp wheel on that 35. Will help a little but you're asking a lot from a 35.

So what is an economical way to run more efficiently without spending $2k on a turbo? I was looking at H2E's or HX50's on ebay because I can get on for less than $200 and then look for a smaller exhaust housing. Anything doing there?

H2E's and HX50's were run through the "aftermarket performance" mill 3-5 years ago and nothing ever came of them. Both would be to big for use in a daily driver and very slow to spool especially slow on your automatic.

For around $200-300 you can send your turbo to HTT and have it upgraded to the HX40 compressor wheel and compressor housing. It would help probably your cheapest option. Be sure to keep the stock 12ex housing, just dont run boost up past 40psi. The 14W housing flows better but the small bit of lag it adds will put you back to watching the pyro like a hawk.

Could also keep an eye on the classifieds for a used HTT/II 62/12 of some sort which would work well for you and be $1000 or less.

Anybody want to let me borrow a turbo while HTT mods mine? Wish I could do it but this is a daily driver and my only means of getting to work. How long do they take to do the work and would it be worth it? Should I just start hiding cash in the sock drawer and get something that would work a little better in case I do want to expand in the future?

Well if you're looking to expand in the future I'd skip the HTT mod, you wouldnt get much more out of it.

Id look for a used 62/12, always upgradeable in terms of compressor wheels 64,66 etc and there are may different options for turbines and turbine housings as well. Plus they work great over a S400 in twins.

You've got a combination of mods that does not work well without a Right Foot Governor (RFG).

A 3k GSK lets you fuel to 3,000 rpm? Your HX-35 runs out of air around 2,500 rpm. Add the 370 injectors & #100 plate (no upper rpm defuel) and you push past a HX-40/35 hybrid. A trimmed S300 is the minimum if you want to beat everyone up the hill or off the stop light.

I know I have to be responsible with the throttle but I dont want to be anymore ! I realize that I am going to need to spend some cash to put the icing on this cake and when I do Im going to probably have to buy the sprinkles as well (torque converter). I hate this cycle, I feel like an addict! Anyhow thanks for the info and keep it coming. Where is the best place to look for an S300? Is the S300 or the 62/12 the better option? Why not a 64/71/13 or a 62/14?

U need a bigger boost gauge to make sure ur not pushing way over 35lbs on the 35 turbo, because that doesn't help. Everything I've read, 370's are pretty hot under load.

u might just look to a simple 14cm exhaust housing, that would help EGT's.
