I know I'm a little late getting in on this thread, but here's my opinion. I actually swapped my 3:55's out for 4:10's in my Goerend Bros. equipped truck, and I think its one of the best mods I've ever done. I run 3" of lift and 315's (35's) so that might make the difference, but I love the power I've got now with the new gears. With the mods in my sig, it pulls hard right off of idle even with the trailer and the Jeep hanging off the back. I tach 2000 rpm at what my speedo says is 70 mph. Before I did the swap I did a little research with the gear calculators that are out there, and with the 35's and the 4:10's, I'm taching 200 rpm more than stock at 60 mph. If you're thinking about swapping to 4:10's, I say do it. If you've already got them with the auto, I say keep em', call Dave and get some tranny mods and lace up some 35" rubber. My .02

Well, i'm planning on running the auto until I get a 5spd swap ready, i like the 4.10's for towing and right now i cruise ~68mph @2000rpm. The power is great, but my TC only allows full power to the wheels when it locks up, which is great for 40mph-70mph pull, but below that is where a 5spd, or a nice built auto tranny would be fun.

I paid $650 for mine, and it came with a 100k mile warranty.

I have the 4.10 and even before lockup it's pretty fast. You can spin the wheels some from start especially with tiny bit of pre-boost. If the new TC will make that much of a difference, then I can't wait to have one! The only thing I don't like it how long it takes to **** or lockup in that final gear. If it shifted quicker then I'd be able to beat my friends mustang which is somewhat modified. I thought the initial pull on mine was great. Whenever I race someone, taking the lead off the line for a while is the easy part unless I'm stuck spinning wheels. The shift point is where they get me, and then it's great power again, but they are already ahead by then and there's not much top speed with big 4.10 gears. When you are wide-open-throttle the TC doesn't lock up until about 60 MPH. When I race my friend in his 2004 Audii A4 (turbo) from about 45MPH I kill him, but he will beat me by just a little if we start from rest.

If your transmission doesent like to shift fast at Wide Open Throttle, but a governor spring kit in your truck. My tranny hated to shift at WOT when i had the stock converter and transgo. I put the GSK in it, and it shifts much better now.

My 2500 has 4.10s, they're good for towing, but like most have posted in this thread it seems to really lack until the TC locks up. Though I will say, if you get a good launch off the line, with those gears it'll throw you back in the seat pretty good. I'll be driving the 2500 for a bit until my trans is finished for the 3500, and for some reason the throttle linkage on the 3500 has a spring attatched to it that makes the petal feel a bit heavier (I'm afraid to remove it for the possibility that the previous owner may have had the throttle stick on there), and so driving the 2500 the other day at a light I stepped down like I usually do on the 3500 (which is a little harder), and man that truck torqued to the side and took off like a rocket. Caught me a bit off guard.

But I still like the 3.54's with the standard size tires, but I bet the 4.10s really are nice with larger tires.

Phil, have you found a set of 4.10s yet so you can do you're 35's?

my pedal is heavy also, I like it because some cars I have to hold my foot or kind of hover it off the pedal so it doesn't keep going faster, the dodge I can just lay my foot on it and it holds the speed I want.

I just went from 3:55's to 4:10. Had the tranny built by Fred at Allstar Automotive including extra clutches, VB, TC, etc. He was with ATS, then he joined Allstar. I just went from Colorado, to GA, to Daytona, and back. This combination works great for me, pulling 20K fully loaded, truck and trailer. I did install a TC lock up switch. I was considering switch to a manual, but for about the same price I had the auto rebuilt.

I've decided to wait until the auto needs a rebuild, than i'll swap in the 5spd to put all the power down. My TC is whats holding my trans back, but I can live with it until I do the swap.

Box5 - you say you want 240hp/640tq, but you sig says your truck has a Banks PowerPack. If it does, you already have more power than you want, it's just not getting to the wheels. With extra power over stock, the stall speed of the torque converter will be higher than stock, which feels slushy. Put a valve body & converter in it, along with a 3k GSK so you can hold it full throttle without defueling, and you'll forget all about a 5 speed swap. I have a 5 speed and wish I had bought an automatic - lost 5th gear so had to update the transmission shaft and gear, had to upgrade the clutch cause it couldn't hold the power, the ratios suck, and shifting gets old when you're on vacation!

The truck feels like a 240hp 640tq cummins only when it locks up in 4th(with OD switch off) or in OD. I'd love to get it on a dyno to see for sure. I can be lugging up a hill in OD going 50mph, and put half throttle and it just pulls away and flys up the hill. I've priced a single disc TC, and valve body, and it's still more than I could swap in a 5spd, and theres no gaurantee the tranny won't fall apart as soon as the TC and VB are installed. And see, I don't like the ratio's of the auto other than OD. I can't cruise at 40-45 without it wanting to go into OD, and with the switch off it's only good to cruise around 35-40, so city driving isn't much fun.

Save the money and let DTT do the trans 'cause you'll not believe its the same truck! I ordered parts from them and rebuilt the trans myself but, after all the work, I'd been better off to just swap the complete assembly. Regardless, I'd buy an automatic again and get whatever the DTT boys say I needed. I'm just a poor machinist and I know a bargain, even if it empties my wallet!!
