Question 12mm ARP head studs?

Hey, got the studs in couple days ago. Intructions read of all this machine work and tapping the holes deeper and all this. Is this what all you guys are doing? I had never read on this having to be done. I will IF tis a ness. other wise it seems like a lot of trouble. What i dont get is, milling the tops of the rocker blocks will not lower the stud if thier were interferance in the valve cover, so whats the point? Have not re-assembled a cylinder to see because my .20 head gasket still has not arrived. If thiers an issue or interferance prob. wheres it at???? Thanks tons guys

Yes you have to machine the tops of the rocker assy.

I have a set of each. My old skool set, I had to grind the undersides of the valve covers to get them to clear the studs.
My new set, the studs for the rockers are shorter, so you have to machine them or else the nuts won't be able to go on.

Got ya, making more room for the washers and nuts. Did you do this your self or have it done, isnt it .110 or .200 thou. could one use a thinner washer?

The set I have were .200" and 1.1" across. I did it on my small milling machine.

Thanks JD730, not a big deal heck thier already off. Did you also have to tapp the holes any deeper? I know you shouldnt, that should be the point of the studs beeing shorter, but the place i bought them just said they to tap a little deeper? Did you.. thanks Ryan

Nowhere in my instructions does it say to tap the holes deeper.
It says just to tap them tho.

Are you installing them in framE?

What Id read is theres material at the bottom where the drill went down but its not tapped all the way so you can get a little extra room with a bottom tap.
Obviously you want to be really careful tapping the block so you dont lose the tap in there. There was a thread awhile back that even listed sources for the best tap.

I got a set of blue-point taps/dyes.
There is a measurement on how high the studs should sit out of the block, so I see no reason to tap further than the threads.
