Jimmy Smith's drag truck that run's mid 9's uses half ton springs up front. Im pretty sure you can just bolt them in and go. They should get the few inches lower that you are looking for from it. His truck also has a set of monster twins, data system, and plenty of other extra stuff that weighs the front end more, and he hasnt had any problems with them yet. Those that havent tried it wont know if it will work or not, and are just guessing at it.
Here is a video of a 9.7 run.

So, that means you're just going to add MORE weight to the front. And, you're on dirt, which isn't as smooth as asphalt the last time I checked. What I would do, (take this as you want) would be to get a set of one ton springs and cut them down a few coils.
Ok, did some research for ya on google since I'm bored as hell at work.
Numbers's on left are "tag numbers". And the number's to the right are load ratings in pounds PER SPRING. Half ton on top, 3/4 on bottom. I found this on a snowplowing forum.. So, I'd take it with a grain of salt.. But, if these are correct, there is a 1000+ lb difference between 1/2 ton and 3/4 & 1ton front springs.
