Injector issues, P0201, P2146 and $$

2007 Ram 2500 5.9, auto, Megacab, 4x4

Threw those codes pulling a trailer into Denver. Dealer replaces #1, ($1250.00) and informed me that was a bandaid, cause I need to do all of them to prevent bigger issues, burned pistons, etc. ($5600.00). This was a Saturday. Said it was blowing too much fuel into cylinder. Knew I needed it fixed today, needed to be back in Gunnison Sunday, etc...... Could that influence the price??

Question is, do I really need to do all of them? If so, where can I get injectors for a reasonable price? I have access to literally every tool known to man and a shop to do the work. Dealer price for one injector was about 750.00.

Any help much appreciated

Sounds about right for a dealership. The only good thing is they likely put a quality Bosch remanned one in, so you can do the other 5 much more reasonably.

Just a couple of places here, one is 350 each, other is 324 each, plus applicable core charges.

There nay be others cheaper out there, probably not much though...... Make sure you put genuine Bosch remans in, there is a reason they are more money.

And while you didn't say how many miles you had on it, generally yea, when one has an issue the others aren't terribly far behind, they have been spraying the same fuel, etc......

you got screwed and you do not need injectors. the solenoid's had a design fault of how the coil wires connect to the post there is two vendors on ebay selling them for about $50-$70 it takes about 30 minutes total time including putting tools back the valve cover is 10mm two tube on right side pull out the injector solenoid nuts are 8mm the body will unscrew with a 12 point deep 1 1/16" socket, i changed enough of them that i took a 1 inch and used a dremmel to make a socket with perfect fit, screw the new one on and connect the wires, replace valve cover and your done. you should add better filtering pm me if you want a how to for about a $100 2 hour project. here is a pix of a solenoid joint failure

Thanks for the help so far!

Truck only has 53,000 miles. Thinking I should at least investigate that solenoid. It did sit for 2 years, 2013-2015 at 30,000 miles. Wonder if that would do any damage to the rubber parts of the injectors. Thoughts?

Yea, if it only has 53K then I agree, something else is probably going on.

it will do no damage to the rubber parts of the injectors if it set's ten years, i have a injector apart in the shop and will look but the only rubber i can remember is one O ring on the body at very low pressure and i think two small O rings on the solenoid again at low pressure. we run a fleet of dodges and got our taste of the cp3 in 02 with our 03's, we knew nothing about the CR and the dealer knew less, phone calls to Bosch in Germany helped a lot but Chrysler would not let the dealer do what we asked and we purposely melted a 03 engine with 12,000 on it, warranty replaced the block but but put the old head back on with only replacing the one injector that stuck open, we took bosch's advice and added filtering to all of our CR's starting in mid 03, no more sticky or wear problems, the defective solenoids started showing up about 05 (now 11 years ago) the 06's and 07's seem to have the most failures, the last digit in the p0201 code tells you witch injector is bad ie #4 will be p0204 pull the second bank injector plug and check resistance with a ohm meter, it will show about 0.5 ohms on #5 and #6 with #4 above 1 ohm

Not saying the truck needs new injectors, but one can get "new bosch motorsport injectors" for Dap at reasonable prices. You probably wont find these at the dealer. I just installed the +50hp injectors in my truck and really like them. Others on the forums have installed them and I have not heard of any complaints. My +50hp injectors burn clean,no smoke.

Product Comparison: Brand New BOSCH MOTORSPORTS Injector 50HP 143* spray *Offroad Use Only - BMS50E VS Brand New BOSCH MOTORSPORTS Injector 100HP 143* spray *Offroad Use Only - BMS100E

Do not use reman injectors. Buy new from Bosch. The risk is way too high that you will get somebody else's problems. One man's definition of rebuilt may not be yours!

Thanks again for the help. I've got the 48RE Automatic, and I've heard somewhere that increasing the HP putting the +50 injectors in might do damage to the tranny. I did install the better tranny solenoid about 20,000 miles ago.

However, the truck is running really good right now, fired right up at -23 plugged in.

sorry to hear you have an automatic, for your truck now that efi live and smarty jr can move the third injection event up into the second going to 50 hp will hurt mpg, go with efi live by anarchy and enjoy about 30% better fuel mileage and way cleaner oil
