If you want to take it in, she's your truck. I sent you a response in private message mail, with my email address, but didn't hear from you.

I was trying to send you a pdf, but can't figure how to do it in the thread. I have a Dodge shop manual for the 06 on disk and can cut and copy sections. No, I will not load up the whole thing, it's 230 meg heavy, to heavy for an email.

As for the cost, I did mine with a $18.00+ filter from Dodge, saved 1/2 price on oil by going to Wallie World for Valvoline approved oil. $40.00 @ Dodge, $20.00 at WW. The gasket is reusable, but if replaced, $18.00+. All you need is a set of wrenches / sockets, Torq bits for the filter, a torque wrench with inch/pounds, a BIG pail, lots of rags and patience. Not hard to do. Bands are easy if following the manual.

The dealer said no problem with warrantee it done in the appropriate time / miles, use the OEM parts or their equivalence or better, and save the receipts. "SAVE THE RECEIPTS". Per my local Dodge Service Bay Manager.

I'm at 97,000 now and have never touched the bands. I have a deep tranny pan with a drain so the fluid change is easy. Filter is easy too since you can drain the fluid (mostly) before dropping the pan. I'm probably due for a fluid change soon - what's involved in adjusting the bands? Maybe I'll pay someone so I don't cause trouble trying to avoid trouble...

I have an 06 with a 48re trans. I'm not sure if they are the same, but most likely are.

Changing the oil, adjusting bands and refilling is easy, a bit messy, but saves a bunch. And if you do it at regular intervals, keeps the trans in proper performance and gives you a very long length of time before full rebuild.

If you want the dealers shop manual page (1 page) on adjusting bands send me your email address and I'll send the pdf I did to the other guy. ( anoldbiker@gmail.com )

I did mine in about an hour since I need a cigarette and coffee break, but spent about $20.00 in oil from Wallie World in Valvoline oil (dealer wanted $40.00+), and $18.50 ?? from the dealer for the Dodge filter. My stock gasket is reusable and that cost nothing, no need to change it. But if it's not on yours and you want a dealer reusable gasket, it's about $18.50. You can use it several times before replacing if you don't screw it up while servicing the trans. The high cost of a filter / band adjustment and fluid fill is in labor.

Tools needed are common, except most done have a torque wrench in Inch/pounds. This is needed to torque bands properly and tighten the bolts without crewing up the gasket.

48re band adjustment

Seems several needed it, so if it's theres that much of a demand, I made a jpeg and pdf, (which ever you prefer), of the page and hope those who need it finds it helpful.

Also, this is the first time doing this on here, so if it works, great, if not, well ... I'll try try again.

Is it possible to do the full 16 quart flush at home, or does the dealer do it with a special pump? I'm going to do the bands/filter/gasket and want to drain ALL the fluid and replace with new. I think anything I can do to prolong the life of this trans is money well spent. I'm at 68k, and last had the bands/filter/gasket done by dealer at 40k.

In the past I had auto trans for the wife only. The dealer would do them with all that was involved. It was easier to have them pull it and do the whole thing. If something went wrong, (it was only once), I had AAA tow it back, they gave her a rental and I had it easy.

Before I retired, I was only a clutch kind of guy. I could take it to work on the weekend when only the weekend guy was there and do my entire trans, and be done before lunch.

If you feel you want to try, I'll have to break it up in to parts, (the full 48RE section is roughly 82.5 megs) and try to add it to the thread. But it's a lot involved.

The only reason I have this truck with an auto, was I lived in California, and when I bought her, you could only find an auto. The dealer could not find a stick in the entire state.

148,000 miles strong and never have adjusted the bands and don't plan on it. Just the regular scheduled fluid and filter changes.
