That truck is a thing of beauty.
I myself have just aquired a fairly clean '79 F-250 2wd crew cab short box, haven't even picked it up yet.
One question I've got with regards to your build:
Being the wheel base of my '93 Dodge club cab long box is sooo close to the Ford's (only a quick measure thus far) in your opinion would it be "easier" to swap the Ford body onto my frame or buy the Ford frame the seller has laying next to the complete crew cab?The 4x frame is just that, the bare frame. There are no diffs,trans,t-case,nothing but the frame.
I figure just doing a body transplant would be best as my Dodge already has a 4" lift and is just what I want except it's not a crew cab.
I DID find a Dodge crew cab 2 hrs from the house here but it's rusted out and looks like he's hit more that one power pole with the front end.
IF you were to do this build again, would you put the Cummins into the Ford or do a body swap onto the Dodge frame?

I'd appreciate your opinion.
Thanks in advance,

Awesome truck. i have a 2wd 79 4dr that i bought from arizona, i am still deciding on what to do to it. I have thought about finding a wrecked 3rd generation and putting the ford body on it. Anyways thats an awesome truck and it looks very clean.

sorry for slow response, just drove the old ford 1000 miles on a trip from utah to montana, truck runs better than it looks. dont put the ford on a dodge frame, the motor sits forward in the dodge about 6" more than the ford, you wont have any room for intercooler, etc. swap the running gear under the 2x4 ford.

Is the 2nd generation head just as simple as a bolt on. can a 2nd generation injection pump be swapped onto a 1 generation engine, what would need to be changed besides the front cover.

Sorry about digging up an old thread. But I have to ask, how the duece did you fit an 06 intercooler into your truck? I'm building a 77 F-250 cummins conversion and I'm looking at my 2nd gen intercooler thinking there is no way it'll fit. So how'd you do it?

Thanks

i had to trim about 3 " off the bottom of i/c and weld it back up. i rebuilt the hood latcch to fit and modified both parts of latch to make it work. i trimmed a little off the inside of grill too, but its barely noticeable. flip the 2nd gen upside down,

fitting the whole thing in there is the trick, mine was tight but doable, and they cool like no other
