NV4500 Rebuild help and info
Well I blew up my tranny yesterday cruzing about 65 with a trailer that had 4.5 tons of scrap metal on it. Im assuming the 5th gear nut may have come off? The man i bought it from said it had a new tranny with 30,000miles on it and the nut had been taken care of. Well ive found plenty of lies he's told me so im assuming this is another... anywho im posting some pics of what it looks like to see if anyone can tell me what may have caused the problem. Also if anyone has a book on rebuilding them or any info they would be willing to lend it would be greatly appreciated. Possibly any info on a shop in ABQ New Mexico or santa fe that someone has worked with.

From the looks of it, I would say it had been run low of lube at some point. The gear that is destroyed is 4th, 5th gear is in the tail housing. When it comes time to buy parts, I would recommend genuine NV, a lot of the aftermarket parts just will not hold up in these trannies.

ya i noticed the input shaft looked blueish like it got overheated, but when i pulled the tranny it had a ton of fluid in it, idk what the deal is. Thanks for the input though! Im lookin to put some power down when i get a little spare cash, how much hp/tq is the stock NV good for? and what would be the main thing i would need to upgrade while im in there?

I would just do a swap.. With all the damage to the shafts with discolor you would have to gut it and replace everything but the case. I did a complete swap for a reman unit for $1500 CAD after core with all the updated shaft/nut stuff. Once you get into the input shaft upgrade it gets costly.
These guys have parts and trannies Quad 4X4.com but are quite a bit pricey.
This is a shop that has been doing it for a long time and I have seen on the boards for years and probably closer to you. Better prices for a reman from what I saw... Standard Transmission
