engine oil leak on top of tranny/head
I have oil covering the top half of my auto tranny bellhousing and a showing of oil on my head all along the top. It also appears to be seeping down the back of the engine block where the trans and engine meet. Going in tomorrow to have dealer find the cause.

Drive it for a bit and recheck for a leak. If there is none than he did the correct thing. If there is still one he did not. The gasket might have been curled up a little bit and the tech straightened it out. Let us know.

My truck has 13k on it......starting to leak at rear left side of vavle cover/rocker gasket.....thats the lower gasket as these 3rd gen trucks have a 2 piece valve cover with upper and lower gaskets. Another persons truck I know has the same leak. Dodge parts department computer only shows the upper valve cover and gasket.....picture is missing lower section and gasket., so if service had to replace the lower gasket......there is no listing....Dodge said they will have to talk to there resource center to figure out why the lower rocker housing and gasket are not shown.
I called Cummins and they gave me part numbers for the lower section cover and gasket.....but there Cummins numbers.
Cummins numbers: lower rocker lever hosing: 3955121....rocker lever gasket: 3955109

Rear left is also where I had the leak. (to soon to recheck) Just a side note, my coolant plug on the right rear top is getting some crust from a coolant leak that I have yet to tighten, which should do the job.

A freinds 03 is at the dealer this week to find that oil leak. We found the proper part numbers for the rocker gasket ...{ 5114418AA }....they ordered it just incase that is the problem, and told me to check the end of the week to find out what they find out about the leak, then I will get mine fixed.

my truck was doing both....cover and plug. I tightened the plug a little and cleaned them off with a brush...no more leak...I have cleaned the cover and expect tightening of those bolts will cure the issue.....I hope.

Anyone have any updates on their leaks? I just found an oil spot on the floor of my garage. After some time poking around my engine, it appears I have a similar oil leak. The bottom of my bell housing was wet with oil and I was able to track it to the back of the head. Unfortunately it's a P-in-the-A trying to see back there. I also keep my engine pretty clean, so even with my little mechanics mirror, all I could see was the shiny painted finish on the back of the head. It appeared that just under the head gasket was wet looking, but it nearly impossible to tell if it's just collecting there while leaking down the engine, or if it is coming from there. I haven't retorqued anything yet, I just cleaned everything up really well and will keep an eye on it. I probably won't take it to the dealer of service, so if anyone was able to resolve their leak I'd appreciate a heads up on the cause. Thanks

Mine has an oil "creep" not a leak just attracks dust and bugs, not Wet. It's around the valve cover area and where injector lines enter also. Not bad, just alittle unsightly for the curious Ford & Chevy onlookers!

I was just reading in another thread that some have had the problem after changing their oil and putting in the full 12qts. I did the same and wonder if it isn't the excess coming out the breather. I have about 500 miles since my oil change and I hadn't noticed any leaks prior to that.

Its been since nov 2003 that my head gasket was repositioned by dodge. Just checked, no leak. When mine was leaking, oil "creeped" 2/3's of the way down the tranny bell housing, which I cleaned then and is still clean now. It was the left side rear that was leaking.
