Attention 48RE fans and problems with the Steering Wheel folks
I took my truck into the local dealer today as I wanted them to fix the right hand pull my truck has had from day one. They had tried to fix it once before but to no avail. They had tried rotating the tires, giving the truck a front end alignment, even prayer but nothing worked. This time another tech took it for a test drive, came back and swore the steering wheel was off. He recentered it and the thing drives like a trucks supposed to drive - straight as an arrow. I don't know if this will fix anyone elses problem but I'm a very happy camper.
Now, for the 48RE, last weekend I was changing my oil and noticed that the tranny cooler lines where they come out of the front tranny radiator were leaking tranny fluid just ahead of the front left tire. They inspected it and informed me that the top line was leaking at the coupling that couples the tranny radiator line to the steel line (approximately 4" from where the line exits the bottom of the radiator). They didn't have any of those couplings in stock as "they had ran out" but would have one here in a week. I asked him if they had any problems with the 48RE and he said they've seen several with the same leak but other than that it's been a great transmission and that only time will tell as to it's durability. Bottom line is it might be worth a crawl under the truck just to check them out and keep an eye on them. I'd be interested if anyone else had experienced a failure in the cooler line coupling.
