We have a 2003 SO at work that just took out the transfer pump. No cause has been found yet but the guys drive it hard. I can't believe this is very common although the service manager stated that according to DC it is a know issue.

No problem with my own however.

Seems like the lift pump failures have been up in Canada. Wonder if it's the extreme cold, #1 diesel or just crappy fuel?

Just a bit of an update on our truck. It seems they left the thing sitting there for three days with the radios turned on. A LOT of radios, repeaters etc. The batteries were stone dead. They boosted it and got it running, didn't charge the batteries and the next day it quits. Almost the entire fuel system, especially the injectors depends an sufficient voltage to operate. I am a bit suspicious the two problems may be related and there is really no pump problem at all. The pump is going back to DC for analysis and it will be interesting to read the report which the dealer has promised to share with me.

Any news? What kind of symptoms were you having that lead to the pump as the culprit?

Thanks,

GT

As far as symptoms, the truck just quit running.

I heard nothing from the dealer. He admitted that we may never hear what was wrong with the pump. I still think it was the weak batteries that caused the problem with the fuel system. Lift pump problems in the 03s are rare and it was just too much of a coincidence. Regardless, the truck is apparently fine now.

If I hear anything from the dealer on the pump I will be sure to post the findings.
