New Engine Stand
#3
Very cool stand you made there. I like that it can also be moved with a forklift.
As for mounting the motor by the engine mount. I too would be a bit nervous. I think I would prefer the back of the motor where the adapter plate mounts to the block. That's just me though.

From what I've researched, using the motor mount
for the attachment isn't a problem.
I wanted to have a stand that can
hold an engine that was complete with all it's accessories
installed.
The only part I would have to install after taking it
off the stand before dropping it into a vehicle would be the fuel filter.

Nice work, man.... !
How do you lock the motor in place ?
Is there a way to tighten the shaft so you can turn the engine a few degrees and keep it there ?
I've seen it done with a couple of holes lined up with pins, and also with a nut welded to the tube with a bolt through it that gets tightened up against the shaft with a GR 8 bolt.
how is yours set up ?
BTW, What's ya doin with the D250 club cab in the background ?

On picture #5 you can see the 3/4 bolt head at the end of the spindle support,
still need to make handle for it. I can rotate the engine any # of degrees then clamp it down.
The old club cab you see in the background is a truck I picked up for parts,
going to get the posi rear axle out of it for my work truck someday.

I would put another (bolt on) support on the other (side) motor mount. A good insurance against vibrations if later you want to RUN the engine while on the stand.

It is very solid on the stand, no wobble or anything.
If I were to run an engine on this stand, I would hook the engine up to the chainfall to take some of the load off the stand and to help keep it stable.
To rotate the engine I just loosen the support shaft bolt. then grab the engine
and turn it, then lock it back down.
I made the mount so that it's shaft was
located near the engines center of gravity so it is easier to turn around.

I am paranoid as well though, it would be nice to have it on both sides, but not necessary.
Nicely constructed stand!
