HELP PLEASE! Trailer light ?

My LH blinker and brake light do not work. Fuse is good and power to the fuse. It sounds as if there is a relay somewhere inside the fuse box that controls these lights. RH blinker it is noticeably louder/stronger than the LH blinker which is barely audible. Is there a way to change that relay? Or do I need to buy a whole new fuse box/module? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you-
Sam

Try out a 2nd truck? Might be the trailer wiring.

No its my truck. Bought a tester light to rule out the trailer. Did some quick research on here. Does anyone know if my 03 has the IPM? Saw another post where the guy had it reflashed and it fixed this exact problem but his is an 06.

Thanks

have the t-shirt

I've to the same problem on my '03, except it's the right turn/brake for me. It appears to be a bad relay (right turn louder than left). Checked continuity all the way back to the trailer connector from the IPM, it's good. Now I'm debating opening up the IPM to see what can be done. Got nothing to lose right?

But first I'm going to splice into the left turn tail light wiring and see if that will get the juice to the trailer. I suspect it won't work though, because the computer monitors the amps going to those circuits and will freak out if it sees an above normal current draw.

we have had left turn problems with customers trucks as we wire in brake controllers and it seems to be in the fuse block itself as one guy with 05 had to have the whole base unit replaced to get his left trtailer turn back. have not found out what 06 fix was yet we had 2 with left turn dead at 7 way plug my 06 brake lioghts went out and it was a circuit board??

I am hoping it is not the whole box. I have lights on the truck but not on the trailer. Power at the fuse and continuity from the plug to the box. My RH works and is louder than the LH tick by a lot. Thanks for any help

Sure sounds like you need a new IPM.......sorry man.......I'm not looking forward to the day that mine goes either! I'm positive that I will take it apart and see if I can replace the relay when it does go though!

I have a 2004 RAM 2500 CTD with the same problem. Left side brake and left side blinker lights do not work. However the running lights work fine.

Just got off the phone with my local dealership. They told me I have to replace my front controller module and power distribution center (about $998 parts and labor) OUCH! I'm stunned!

Has anybody had a similar experience replacing these two items?

I'm not a happy camper today!

If anybody still has their dead IPM laying around, I'd really like to have one to disassemble and see if they can be repaired for cheap.

I've still got my old one. I thought about taking it apart but wasn't sure what to look for.

Send me your dead IPM. I'll pay shipping!

It should be a matter of testing the relays which are suspect of failure then disassemble and replace. I don't know how the IPM is assembled and sealed, so this may or may not be a difficult job.

In any case, if it is fixed with a few $8 relays then its worth spending an hour or two to repair the IPM than spend $400 on a new one.

I've done a similar thing on a different vehicle where replacing the relays was $23 total and 1.5 hours of work, whereas the assembly from Honda was $1200.

Once you fix it can I have it back? I think my new one just failed on me after about a year and a half. is there anyway that you can think of to safeguard this from happening again?
